Ehud Barak In June 2007, the suspect imposed a siege on 1.5 million residents of Gaza. The siege, which is ongoing in 2009, is collective punishment according to International Law. The year and a half long siege caused severe food and fuel shortages, intermittent drinking water and electricity supply, disruption to sewage treatment plants and shortages of medicine and essential medical equipment, affecting the lives of 1.5 million people - a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and Rome Statute. On 27 December 2008, the suspect ordered the aerial bombardment of Gazan population centers. The attacks involved hundreds of fighter jet sorties, dropping hundreds of tons of bombs on Gazan neighborhoods. At least 1,300 people - men, women and children were killed and 5,300 were injured. Schools, hospitals and UN facilities were targeted, medical crews shot at and prevented from evacuating the wounded. On 10 December 2008, a formal complaint was submitted by Lebanese lawyers to the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands, against Ehud Barak and four other Israelis: Ehud Olmert, Matan Vilnai, Avi Dichter and Gabi Ashkenazi on the suspicion that they had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity by ordering and maintaining a siege on Gaza. Description of the suspect: a white man, about 65 years old, lower than average height, graying hair, brown eyes, with glasses.

Militar argentino acusado de roubar bebês aparece morto

BUENOS AIRES - Um militar argentino reformado acusado de roubar bebês de prisioneiros políticos durante a última ditadura apareceu morto com um tiro na cabeça, informou nesta terça-feira, 26, uma fonte oficial. Paúl Navone era acusado de ter participado do roubo de alguns recém-nascidos de uma maternidade clandestina que funcionava dentro de um hospital militar na cidade de Paraná, na província de Entre Ríos. Dentro de alguns dias, ele prestaria depoimento à Justiça.

Navone é o segundo militar acusado de crimes contra a humanidade que aparece morto desde dezembro, num momento em que a Justiça avança na reabertura de investigações sobre as causas de crimes cometidos durante a ditaduta (1976-1983), quando, segundo denúncias, desapareceram 30 mil pessoas.

A pessoa morta "é Paúl Navone e a causa da morte seria um tiro na cabeça. Estamos investigando como aconteceu para determinar se foi homicídio ou suicídio", disse ao canal de notícias TN a advogada Marina Barbagelata. "Esse repressor havia sido convocado pela juíza federal de Paraná para prestar depoimento. Ele era acusado de ter participado do sequestro destes menores logo após o nascimento, entre fevereiro e março de 1978", acrescentou.

No dia 10 de dezembro, o ex-repressor Héctor Febres, que estava detido acusado de privação ilegítima da liberdade durante a ditadura, apareceu morto em sua cela quatro dias antes de a Justiça anunciar sua sentença. Inicialmente acreditava-se em suicídio, mas depois se soube que ele morreu por ter ingerido cianureto após ter dito a familiares que pensava declarar e dizer tudo o que tinha feito e visto. Segundo a juíza da causa, ele teria sido assassinado para que não falasse.

No caso de Navone, "é altamente provável que existam pessoas que poderiam ver-se ameaçadas frente a uma declaração de Navone", segundo a advogada.

Os bebês que nasceram na maternidade clandestina do Paraná ainda não foram encontrados por organismos de direitos humanos, como as Avós da Praça de Maio, que se dedicam a procurá-los.
